    A Visit From The Police.

    January 19th, 2018 by

Following on from our history lesson about ‘heroes’ we had surprise visitors today.  We told the children that these visitors could be classed a real life heroes as they work very hard for the community everyday.  The children correctly guessed that the visitors were going to be the police.  The children were extremely excited and spent 5 minutes thinking of and discussing questions they might like to ask.

When PC Alex Angus and ?? arrived Miss Francis checked whether the ‘Facts about the police’ that we had written in our non chronological report were actually accurate.  We read our text map to the officers who were extremely impressed with our knowledge.  Following this the officers shared any missing information with the children about their role and reinforced that their job was primarily to keep us safe.  The session ended with lots of questions, information about the importance of wearing a seat belt in a car and photographs to remind us of their visit.

Thank you to the police for making time in their busy schedules to come and see us.

    Our Mock Wedding

    January 18th, 2018 by

Today we visited St Johns Methodist church for a mock wedding. In RE we have been learning about Christian weddings. Prior to our visit today we have been planning for this wedding. The children of Y1 decided / voted for who they wanted for the bride, the groom, 3 bridesmaids, a bestman and the parents of the bride and groom. Reverend Keith conducted the mock wedding. Some of our parents came to the church to watch. Next week we are continuing the celebrations with party food cutting the cake and playing party games.

We would like to thank all the adults who came to help and make sure we arrived at the church safely.

    A Surprise Visitor

    January 11th, 2018 by

Today the children were very excited when we discovered a space ship had landed in OUR playground. On the space ship was an alien who was trying to tell us something and seemed to be upset. Mrs Fowler went to investigate further in the playground and discovered a letter flying around.

    Add picture of letter here.

He told us his name was Phantob from the planet Gloop Hill.  We were horrified to find out that he’d been left behind and that his friends on his planet wouldn’t help him. He had heard that on planet earth there were lots of people who help us and asked us to write down some information about these people and in particular someone that could help him.

The children in Year 1 were eager to help and after some discussion realised that the best person to help him would be the police. The problem was Phantob didn’t know what police looked like, what they wore or what special equipment they used. To help Phantob recognise the police the children independently wrote  as much as they could remember about them, knowing that the more they wrote the more likely Phatob would recognise the police and then return home.

Some of the children were very concerned about Phantaob’s safety and wanted to reassure him that they were going to help him so they took it in turns to look for him around the school.  Unfortunately he wasn’t found but there had been noises and broken equipment that couldn’t be explained.

    Our Special RE Lesson.

    November 24th, 2017 by

Today we had seven visitors who came to teach us about Christiananity. The visitors were Hayley, Charlotte, Dan, Mari, Alex, Jahdiel and Gernoit. They live in different countries around the world Austria, Australia, Costerica, Russia, America and England.

Part of our RE lessons has been about celebrations this half term. So today they talked about marriage. The children were asked ‘what is a marriage’  The children had lots of fun taking part in games and answering questions.

We then all made ‘a lantern of light’ which the children were able to take home. The visitors who are all studying at Oxford University are at Christchurch,  Blakenall on Saturday and Sunday to give a light parade. Everyone is welcome.

Thank you to our special guests for a wonderful RE lesson today.

    Anti Bullying.

    November 3rd, 2017 by

Today we had a surprise visit from a theatre company. All the classes went into the hall to watch a play about ‘Anti Bullying’ The children were able to participate and answer questions throughout. At the end we were given a cirtificate to put in our reception area which says ‘Leamore School Say No To Bullying’

Year 1 children were asked what they think bullying means. “When someone punches you” “when someone breaks your toy” “when someone says they are not your friend”

Over the next two weeks we will be looking at different types of bullying in our PSHE lessons.

    World Mental Health Day

    October 11th, 2017 by

Today in Year 1 we used bubbles to pop negative thoughts and instead filled our minds with positive thoughts.  We talked about who we would share our negative thoughts with, people that we trust. For example some children admitted they were afraid of the dark and so offers of positive thoughts came flooding in. One of the ideas was to close your eyes and think about playing on a beach.  The activity made the children realise that positive thoughts change their mood. We completed the lesson by putting all our negative thoughts into a balloon and bursting it, followed by playing  Pharrell Williams-Happy.

Oh my goodness, you will never believe what has happened in Year One today! We arrived this morning to discover that our forest had been trashed and covered in police tape, stating “do not enter.” Amongst all the debris was a phone number. The children did their very best to consider what had happened.

Today we received a phone call from Nick Sharratt thanking us for helping him sort objects that rhyme. He was so grateful that he sent the children a present!! Inside was a book that he had written. It’s called ‘The foggy, foggy forest.’ We created a story map and used makaton signs when retelling.
